Work with me

Kid1
Kid2

I’m available to work with writers at all levels on the following:

  •     Establishing or reestablishing a creative practice that feels playful and restorative
  •     Identifying facets of craft to study and experiment with
  •     Setting goals for and achieving publication

Here are some of the features of my practice:

Gentle accountability:  Together we’ll identify goals that feel both meaningful and achievable, and I will be your kind and steady accountability partner.

Author-directed feedback: When it’s useful to your process, I offer feedback on your work. Together, we’ll identify what areas of craft you want to work on through reading and targeted writing.

Trauma-informed: In a culture that emphasizes grit and pushing through, many writers come to the work with baggage: bad experiences with teachers, workshops, red pens, etc. Some also struggle with the challenge of telling a story that might be re-traumatizing to capture on the page. While creative work should challenge us to grow, our goal is to create a process that feels liberating, joyful, and empowering.

Neurodiversity Affirming: I’m fascinated by our unique brains, and the various accommodations we need to thrive. I’m honored to get to know your brain, and work with you to identify what approaches best support your work.

Equity: I am a queer, neurodivergent author interested in supporting creative and healing practices for all people and communities. If you are interested in working with me, but my prices are inaccessible to you, please schedule a discovery call and we can discuss a low-cost option.

My coaching practice is informed by:

20+ years of teaching creative writing

10+ years of somatic healing

3+ years of learning about Autism, ADHD, and polyvagal theory

An MFA in Creative Writing and ongoing practice in writing and publishing

Testimonials

DeeWilliams

“I've been lucky to work with Jenn, as her student and then as a budding author. As my primary editor, she was instrumental in the development and completion of my book, The Big Tiny (Penguin/Random House). The book only came about because of Jenn’s ability to drop into my narrative and elicit greater clarity. Jenn showed great flexibility in working with my writing style, supporting it and making it stronger."

“Jenn's teaching re-introduced me to my own writing after years of feeling stuck. By demonstrating simple, powerful writing tools and a step-by-step approach to exploration, drafting, and revision, Jenn instilled the confidence that following the process would lead me to my goal. Jenn's quiet magic is that she can teach these nuts-and-bolts skills within an atmosphere of playful discovery. Every single thing I wrote in Jenn's classes took me by surprise (in the best way).”

– Luke Dani Blue, author of Pretend It’s My Body: Stories
